A Simple Guide to Social Media for Small Businesses in the UAE

28 October 2025

Social media advice tends to swing between two extremes: "post on everything, every day" or "it doesn't really matter for a small business." Neither is true. Here's a simpler starting point.

Pick platforms based on where your customers already are, not where you feel you should be

A restaurant or salon in Dubai or Abu Dhabi generally gets more value from Instagram, where customers browse visually and decide quickly. A B2B service business often gets more value from LinkedIn, where the audience is smaller but more relevant. Trying to maintain three or four platforms well, with no team, usually means all of them end up inconsistent.

Consistency beats frequency

Posting five times a week for two weeks and then going quiet for a month is worse for credibility than posting twice a week, every week, indefinitely. Customers and algorithms both reward accounts that show up reliably, not accounts that occasionally burst into activity.

Plan a month at a time

A simple content plan — a handful of recurring post types (a service highlight, a customer question answered, a behind-the-scenes look, an offer) repeated on a schedule — removes the need to think of something new every single day. It also makes it much easier to hand the work to someone else later, because the system doesn't live only in one person's head.

Respond like it's a phone line, not a billboard

Comments and messages on social media are often a customer's first attempt to contact you. Treat response time on social media with the same urgency as a phone call — a slow or missing reply is a visible, public signal to anyone else looking at your profile.

Measure the outcome, not the applause

It's tempting to screenshot a well-liked post and call the week a win, but a post that performs well and a post that actually brought in a booking aren't the same thing, and only one of them affects revenue. A simple habit — noting where each new enquiry says it came from, even in a plain notes app — tells you far more after a month than any engagement report, and it's the only real way to know whether the time going into social is paying for itself.
